so i want to talk about a post i made back in 2018 i believe (i could be wrong about the year and my own age of the time). here is the post:

extremely ill informed, i think everyone can agree on that.

i originally made that post after seeing another tumblr post making the same statement, which i took for face value because i was 15 and stupid. after making the post i deleted it because i was getting a lot of backlash from it (which i honestly have no recollection of deleting it but it wasn’t anywhere on my account but there was something popping up saying i was receiving notes but wasn’t showing where the notifications usually go) then immediately after forgot all about it, which i wish i hadn’t just so i could look back at the post and recognize where i had been wrong with doing so and improve upon past mistakes early on such as that one. i should have looked more into what i had read before making something that was very false and misinforming, even at that age i should have known better.

i should have read through everything everyone was saying to understand and educate myself more but instead i got upset and deleted it which i feel was a large mistake on my behalf. everyone who was and is calling out the misinformation has and had the right to do so, especially so rudely since i had made that post with a lot of aggression.

now this is not an apology to terfs/radfems, the only thing i apologize for is my aggression from the past years but i don’t believe they deserve any other apology than that. however, i don’t wish any of you ill will because you don’t deserve anything bad i only wish for you to be more informed on why trans lives matter and why they do deserve respect like anyone else.

my real apology is for the lgbtq+ community, especially the trans community. i truly hope this post or any others i might have made without remembering hasn’t brought you any pain or harassment because i made them so carelessly without educating myself beforehand.

Happy Meat Day everyone!

image

Several people have pointed out that in many countries outside the U.S., dates are written day/month rather than month/day, which would make Meat Day actually September 2nd. To which I would like to say:

1. In Japan it’s month/day, so February 9th would technically be the correct date
2. That being said… two Meat Days

image

I’m late to meat day :(

I can still be on time to the second meat day :)

Genuine question, do you believe that radfems don’t think trans lives matter? Or that radfems don’t think trans people deserve respect?

well i’m not sure this goes for every terf/radfem but i’ve seen many who misgender trans people all the time. and who knows maybe most radfems don’t consider themselves terfs, i can’t tell you (i don’t think i’ve actually looked at that group since like 2019 probably, though that could be wrong) but most of the terfs i saw at the time considered themselves to be radical feminists. and sure maybe them misgendering someone isn’t a terf saying that person’s life doesn’t matter but it is saying they don’t respect them enough to call them their preferred pronouns.

Trans women didn't start the LGBT movement, which is older even in America than Stonewall, and trans women didn't even start Stonewall! Are you a fascist homophobe or something? Why are you lying about something so easily disproven? Historical revisionism is a tool of fascism. I'm worried about where you're headed.

that post is a few years old when i was younger and misinformed, i think i made that post when i was 15 and i will admit i should have known better than to use tumblr as a link even at that age. i completely forgot i had made that post until someone brought it up (which i’m gonna assume it was you, maybe it wasn’t. who knows) and i know that lgbtq+ people existed for years (obviously) before stonewall, but the movement had not officially started until 1962. and though trans women may not have started the movement they did help extremely, even if you don’t think they did. as for the “homophobe fascist” part of your statement, i’m bisexual and honestly i’m not sure how else to make you not think that, that’s your own opinion over some stupid post i made years ago. “i’m worried for where you’re headed” is a horseshit statement and we both know that, you’re hoping i end up terribly which okay cool, fucking weird but whatever.

Here’s the original thread on twitter, but as someone who has done a lot (a lot a lot) of anonymous fic prompts, I’ve had this happen to me and it absolutely feels exploitative and uncomfortable.

Transcription:

Slide 1: What is fetish mining?
The act of soliciting fetish content from somebody without them knowing the true purpose, and without their informed consent.

Slide 2: How to spot fetish mining.

  • Are you selling something online?
“Can you send me a photo wearing that PVC skirt?”
  • anonymous asks or question boxes?
“What color socks are you wearing?
  • help with a charity project?
“Can you write hashtag Ten Thousand Toes on your feet for charity?”

Slide 3: Signs to watch out for.

  • They are persistent and fixated, asking the same question over and over again.
  • Their account tries to masquerade as an unthreatening person - usually as a young girl.
  • They may try to pose it as a “random” or “spontaneous” topic.

They thrive on plausible deniability.  Trust your gut - if it feels weird, their intentions may be malicious.

Slide 4:  People have fetishes.  It’s allowed.  What’s the problem?

Fetish mining thrives and delights in the knowledge that it preys on unassuming strangers.
The people who are targeted cannot give informed consent when participating in the fetish, because they are not informed that the request is for a fetish in the first place.
It’s exploitative.

Slide 5: Is this Kink Shaming?

No.  People are allowed to have kinks and unusual fetishes.  However, if they are looking for content to satisfy their fetish, it is completely wrong to manipulate strangers into creating that content for them.

Slide 6: This slide features testimonies from victims of fetish mining.  Names and profile pictures have been blurred out for anonymity.

Testimony 1: Constantly being asked for different poses on depop items
Testimony 2: I had someone on twitter asking if I had any more photos of me wearing dungarees.  [impatient huffing emoji]
Testimony 3: I got an offer for some free shoes if I sent a photo of me wearing them.
Testimony 4:  13 YT [YouTube].  Foot drawing competition.  Loads of youngsters entered.  Me too.  Scary looking back.

End Transcription.

How this might translate to the AG community:

  • Last year when we had that anon asking to see red head dolls over and over without any knowledge of AG dolls or AG characters
  • Odd requests for pictures of your dolls with you in them
  • Odd requests for photos of “naked” dolls without any sort of context that would make sense (ie, not for a logical reason like wanting to compare tags to try and ID when a doll was made, or wanting to see the difference between PC and Mattel dolls)
  • If someone gets mad at you for posting a different “type” of AG doll from the “type” that they like (see first bullet)
  • If they ask for photos of your doll in more revealing clothes without any sort of logical context (the only sort of logical context I could even see would be someone asking to see summer outfits)
  • Accounts with a generic name, no posts, and no PFP
  • Incessant use of pet names like “babygirl” and “princess” when referring to you, or a general infantilizing tone because you like AG dolls
  • If they have three or more of these bullet points and have no general knowledge or interest in AG dolls or literature

Yes! This! There absolutely are doll fetishists that exist in the world, and we here on Tumblr have one particular little creep that just won’t go away. Once that person finds someone with an open inbox that accepts anonymous messages, they latch on like a leech and won’t stop.

I started to suspect something wasn’t right when that person kept flooding my inbox when I’d post pictures of my red-haired dolls Felicity or Saige like, “what color eyes and hair does Felicity have? I can’t tell from the pictures you posted” which they NEVER did for my other dolls. Then they said, “I’ve been looking for a certain Girl of the Year doll for several years now” but didn’t actually KNOW THE NAME of the doll they’d allegedly spent years looking for, like how does that make sense? Then they messaged someone else with a red haired doll and said, “I’ve been looking for that doll like yours for years, what color hair and eyes does she have?” Dead giveaway that this person likes red-haired dolls for the wrong reason, and that’s where I draw the line. People like that are not welcome here, at all, ever.

To everyone here on AG Tumblr: if you suddenly start getting multiple anonymous messages in your inbox after only rarely getting messages, BLOCK THAT PERSON. If you suddenly start getting questions that can be easily answered with one Google search or one click on the AG Wiki, BLOCK THAT PERSON. Don’t give them the benefit of the doubt like I did for too long. Or just turn off anonymous questions. That effectively deters them, since they go to great lengths to remain anonymous.

asks are open :)
